Agetis performed a clinical trial to investigate the effects of Evelor®, a micronized formulation of resveratrol, in patients with primary hypertension.

Hypertension is defined as abnormally high systolic and diastolic arterial pressure, which remains consistently elevated throughout the day. If hypertension remains untreated it can lead to a number of health problems, including coronary heart disease, stroke.

Several studies demonstrate that the global burden of hypertension is an important and increasing health problem. The World Health Organization estimates that hypertension affects ≥25% of adults worldwide. It is predicted that in ≤20 years the percentage of the adult population with hypertension will increase by 60%.

The results of the study demonstrated that the addition of resveratrol to standard antihypertensive therapy is sufficient to reduce blood pressure to normal levels, without the need for additional antihypertensive drugs, which is common in many patients. In addition, resveratrol was shown to significantly decrease the levels of the liver enzymes SGTP and gamma-GT, suggesting that resveratrol prevents liver damage.
